Blood & Paper
A musical philosophy relating this physical world to the ethereal vibrations that influence every one of us. All "musical styles" appeal to one human or another. Therefore, they are all relevant - they're all capable of moving us & teaching us.
What else in our lives has provided us with such joy, emotional relevance and physicality? Thought-provoking blends of love, intent and focus . . .
Creation Myths
Lex Philippus (guitar) and Steve Vander Veer (bass) met years ago in school. Athletes that had a dark side - music. Kids that had an interesting time blending both the arts, athleticsand philosophy as "sensible" disciplines/outlooks.
Re-uniting as college drop-outs, the boys started whipping up tunes and, with the help and support of various friends (Eric Park, in particular), were able to perform for many years together. Studio nailings, as well . . .
But, as with so many collaborations, the "biz" side blew up (well, OK, there were relationship difficulties, too). Steve left Boulder for Los Angeles (oddly enough, to get away from the music scene), while Lex remained in Colorado. Always staying in touch, always "there" . . .
Steve has recently returned to Colorado (after various musical trysts - California and Florida). Lyrics and language still consume him - that's the basis of his "hearing".
Lex has journeyed through the music program at Metro State (Auraria). If not for pesky non-musical "requirements", he'd be a graduate. He does, however, pass on theory to those in need, via his studies in Composition, and the Performance curriculum. Lex has played in various groupings in the Denver-area, but now resides in Walla Walla, Washington . . .
Future Plans
Music as a lifestyle is tough. As a true, inner life, not so much. Blood & Paper hopes to reflect the dichotomy of "life" vs. "society".
Lex and Steve - through the intricacies of emotion, of actually trying to "make others stronger" - are trying to move their music forward. Whether it's creating musical pieces as a part of a larger story, or touching/moving a crowd through emotional tugs, there's an evolution in their musical expression . . .
